Hi you guys
That is the only form of address over here. Well we've been to Ayers Rock and Kings Canyon. Up at 4 to be collected by Keith our ever optismistic guide. 11 people were on the trip, 2finnish, 2 french, 2 english, 2 swiss and one canadian. Our arrival upped the average age a lot. The trip to the Rock is a mere 450km so we took in Kings Canyon along the way, a slight detour of about 300km. We climbed and walked for over 3 hours, sorry no pictures this time either. It was fantastic. A japanese lady dressed in long jeans gloves hat with flynet and carrying an umbrella had to be carried down because of the heat. Back in the bus and after a couple of sops for ice cream and beer we arrived at our private campsite. The private campsite is a gigantic resort with villas for hire, the camping area is divided into plots with each travel agency having his own. There were toilets and showers, much appreciated after the hike. Keith soon had the meat, skippy (kangaroo) and beef sizzleing while we set the table in an enclosed area with a roof and fly nets for walls. We made a campfire from wood that we took along the way. This is ok, the locals burn the trees at regular intervals to stop big fires, so the countryside would be fairly green as it does rain sometimes. Most people slep round the fire in a swag which is like a sleeping bag made out of waterproof material with a thin matress in. Unfortunately I didn't, I wasn't prepared for it or I might. the stars were fantastic. Up at 4 again and Keith is busy with breakfast. Off to the rock and the bus park where loads of buses had already arrived. It was quite chilly, about 14 degrees I think. So the sun came up and we took our photos. Then we were driven right up to the rock. I was very surprised to see a rope up the rock and a swarm of people like ants climbing the rock. We walked round, about 10 km. We visited another rock and walked in the gorge then back to camp for lunch. Keith had prepared it while we were walking. Then we were rushed off to the airport and we landed in Cairns before the others were back in Alice.

It does all sound exciting, but hard going and you must be having really long and busy days. I'm not jealous (that's to show I do remember some Swedish), although I would like to see places like Ayres Rock, without all the climbing involved.
ReplyDeleteHave you heard from Kath yet? She should have arrived by now.
Keep writing the blogs - they are very interesting.
Rebekah's doing a long drive tomorrow coming to see me (I suppose that's only a short drive in Australia.)
