K saves the day or the battle of the bluebottles (bromsar))
Woke up to the soud of other campers moving about. Breakfast, then a walk to the top of the falls through the forest. Met an australian bush turkey on the way, we eyed each other suspiciously then he gave up and moved over to let us pass. Back in camp the last 2 campers were getting ready to leave and K murmered, "Just a minute" and climbing into the driving seat tried to start the car. Unsuccessfully. Very flat battery. Fortunately one of the other campers was a real Aussie and had the engine going in no time. "No worries mate" he called cheerfully as he disappeared in a trail of dust. All this is before 8 in the morning. They get up really early here. The sun had come round by this time and the blue bottles seemed to want a free trip out as the whole population flew in through the open doors. And they bite. We got the last ones out on Mission beach where we stopped for a break , Eileen by flicking at them with a towel, K by sweaing at them in Swedish and killing them by one means or another. Booked into a very classy place on Rowse Beach in Townsville for the next 2 nights so now all batteries are charged. Visited Magnetic Island yesterday, a short ferryride from Townsville. Explored several beaches but had no luck with the wildlife. There's sea eagles and Koala bears there. The heat continues and the locals apologise for the weather because it's windy.

Hi
ReplyDeleteYou seem to be fitting in a lot of sightseeing and it all sounds great.
Kath has arrived safely and is in Ballina near Byron Bay. Can you access your emails, because I've sent you her email with the contact details. If not text me and I'll text back - I think you said you had new mobiles.
Sheila
Horse-flies, I think, not bluebottles.
