It's Sunday 5th dec and I feel up to date. Sunday mornings are free so you can choose to stomp up Mt Victoria the long way round or stay in bed. The ideas for garages on the road up the mount are fascinating. Some are just wooden planks on stilts. Most of the houses are wood and very pretty and most are well cared for. There are high rise buildings but the earthquake risk is high, the Te Papa museum we visited is built on a mixture of lead and rubber or gum (I can't remember) which can move a lot without collapsing. When we finally got out we visited some friends, or rather the firm that made them, then spent the rest of the day in the museum. You need a full day there, we missed a lot. The weather was typical Wellington when we came out but our hostel is just round the corner so that was fine. Off to the South Island tomorrow, but east, west or south, the weather will decide.
