Arrived in Wellington after a delay of three hours in a vintage car museum. Fairly cold and windy as W is supposed to be. E decided that ironing seemed a good idea, and K soon found his favourite hot spot in the hostel. Armed with jackets and jumpers the next morning they climbed Mt Victoria, just a 30 min walk, but it gives you a good view of the smallest capital city on earth. It turned out to be one of the 187 days when there is not a gale force wind and the sun was shining. Lovely. After shopping at the best shop in NZ, they took the cable car up to the botanical gardens and admired the fantastic rose garden, W is worth a vist because of that. Wandered around the houses of power, then visited old ST. Pauls church which is built in wood but not in use any more. Well woth a visit. Starving they returned to the hostel to prepare a meal of all the fresh veges that were bought earlier to find one kitchen occupied by a school class and the other by everyone else. But the meal was worth waiting for. Tried to make a traditional Mauri meal but it came out as mothers stew with a different vegetable, kumara, looks like a spud but tastes different.
